Footscray Hospital

More than a healthcare facility, the hospital has been designed as a community and wellness
precinct where hospitality, nature and healthcare seamlessly converge. Warm materials,
expansive glazing and abundant natural light create an arrival experience that feels more like
a luxury resort than a traditional hospital.

As daylight fades, carefully integrated lighting takes over effortlessly. A standout feature is
Lux FX’s custom Harrow 80 Contour, comprising 18 individually manufactured lines of
light that follow the sculptural timber ceiling through the main public spaces. Every luminaire
was uniquely engineered to suit varying lengths, curves and mounting angles, showcasing
precision manufacturing at its best.

Complementing the feature lighting, discreet Laser Blade downlights are concealed within
timber battens and ceiling details, delivering exceptional illumination while remaining
virtually invisible.

Working closely with the architect and construction team, Lux FX also developed a bespoke
adjustable mounting system using the ELR 50 Pro Max and Ecio Square luminaires. The
solution ensured fast installation, precise aiming and seamless integration into the complex
timber ceiling geometry.

Wayfinding throughout the hospital is enhanced using Lux FX’s Loop Grazer, subtly
highlighting key destinations including reception areas, lift lobbies and circulation paths.
Externally, the resort-inspired landscape is illuminated with custom twin-spot bollards and
colour-changing floodlights that accentuate the building’s architecture, creating a welcoming
identity by night while allowing dynamic lighting displays for special occasions.

The result is a lighting solution that is technically sophisticated, architecturally integrated and
designed to support an environment focused on comfort, wellbeing and community.

Collingwood Football Club

Lux FX collaborated closely with NH Architects to elevate the lighting design of the Collingwood Football Club’s newly inaugurated visitor centre. Additionally, the multi-functional space doubles as an event venue and features a dedicated room for cultural education.

A notable challenge arose with the existing glass cabinets, home to invaluable memorabilia, including 16 premiership cups. The distinctive shape of these cups posed a hurdle for conventional downlights or spotlights, as they would cast pronounced shadows, hindering visibility. To surmount this, Lux FX ingeniously crafted custom light boxes, delivering soft, shadow-free illumination. The outcome is a visually striking display where the intricate details on the cups are impeccably showcased.

For the ambient lighting throughout the museum, Lux FX opted for the Connect low-glare downlights. Recognised for their exceptional flexibility, these fixtures offer numerous configurations to control glare, beam angles, and aesthetic nuances, contributing to an overall well-lit and sophisticated ambiance.

The focal point of the facility, the Gayip, serves as a central gathering area for visitors and marks the commencement of their journey through the space. The lighting design in this zone incorporates strategic circular elements, featuring a recessed Harrow 35 profile curved to elegantly frame the display table below. Enhancing the spatial aesthetics is a sheer curtain subtly illuminated by the Loop Swerve flexible LED, adding a touch of visual allure.

To accommodate dynamic displays that evolve seasonally, the iGuzzini Superrail system was employed, offering unparalleled flexibility with numerous spot and general lighting options. Given the prominence of glass cabinets in the displays, the integration of low-glare technology was pivotal to minimising reflections off the glazing. iGuzzini’s Palco low-voltage spotlights were chosen for their ability to maintain minimal glare while providing precise optic control. This allows the club to illuminate the ever-changing displays with precision and sophistication.

The collaborative effort between Lux FX and NH Architects has yielded a visually stunning and functionally optimised lighting design that effectively narrates the rich history of the Collingwood Football Club. The strategic illumination not only enhances the merchandise retail environment but also provides a dynamic and engaging experience for visitors.

Melanie Beynon Architecture & Design

Lux FX is proud to have collaborated with the esteemed Melbourne designer, Melanie Beynon, on the lighting design for her innovative MBAD studio.

The project’s objective was to create a vibrant and highly functional Architecture and Design practice that fosters collaboration and embodies MBAD’s commitment to wellness principles. With a full height glazed façade, the studio provided an opportunity to engage with the community and showcase its aesthetic to passers-by. The expansive glazing allowed natural light to permeate the interior during the day.

To accentuate this feature, our team implemented hidden linear lighting featuring tuneable white LED technology. This lighting not only illuminated the curved plaster waves on the ceiling, showcasing their intricate detail, but also cast a gentle and inviting glow throughout the space. This solution, programmable in both intensity and colour temperature, empowers Melanie to tailor the studio’s ambiance effortlessly, whether for daily productivity, exhibitions, daytime events, or after-hours activities, seamlessly harmonizing with the natural light outside.

For more dramatic scenes, a linear light source with colour-changing capabilities was strategically placed at the window, spanning the entire workspace. This coloured solution is seamlessly coordinated with a matching RGBW linear luminaire and the very clever Blade R downlight that can provide either clean white light or colour changing general light in the adjacent meeting room. Together, these fittings offer flexibility in creating various atmospheres and delineating distinct zones.

The project utilized a minimal number of downlights, opting for the use of low-glare Laser Blade fittings when needed. The precision lighting achieved with Laser Blades not only met the project’s functional requirements but also maintained a minimal aesthetic impact on the environment.

The result is a lighting system that adapts effortlessly to the multifaceted demands of a modern studio. Melanie and her team now enjoy a versatile space that effortlessly balances comfort, drama, and beauty—a testament to the seamless integration of thoughtful design and cutting-edge lighting solutions.

Lux FX Showroom

Designed to explore the opportunities and tools available to designers when illuminating with artificial light, the studio highlights how various lighting techniques can be used to influence our experience with space and form.

The space features the iGuzzini Light Experience room, a visual and immersive space designed around light and shadow to showcase effects and scenes only possible with the most innovative products, designed by iGuzzini, which embody a perfect mix of technology, design, miniaturisation, optics, visual comfort and colour changing luminaires.

The Light Experience is an opportunity to enjoy a first-hand experience of iGuzzini’s lighting perfection and can be visited only in Recanati, Milan, New York, New Delhi, Auckland, Paris, Shanghai and now Melbourne.

Working with the team from Melbourne firm IF Architecture, Lux FX provided them with an almost blank canvas to create something unique, that would appeal to a diverse range of industry professionals.

“The team were keen to connect with their clients in a meaningful way and present products in a way that captures people’s imagination.” said Iva Foschia, Director of IF Architecture.

“While Lux FX had an eventual outcome in mind of how they would use the space, they were very respectful of our core skillset in handing the project over to us.”

“We set up the parameters of columns, a dome, a sphere, arches etc, the foundation blocks of architecture. We incorporated a suite of architectural elements that Lux FX could weave their magic and light into.”

These commonly used elements are illuminated with varying techniques, allowing designers to better appreciate the importance of not just the luminaires, but the different technical properties they can provide.

The project was an opportunity to showcase what the Lux FX range of products could do, bridging the gap between the standalone product and it’s actual application. The aim is to stretch the imagination on how the products can be used, and really demonstrate this in practically through the result of the build. To further heighten the emotional experience Lux FX incorporated a variety of tunable white luminaires demonstrating the effect of colour temperature to a variety of spaces and market segments

Working alongside Lux FX and IF Architecture were master builders Silverstream Constructions who throughout late 2020 and early 2021 made the design a reality with their dedicated and precision work.

The space showcases our 6 brands in a practical setting, and boasts iGuzzini’s Light Experience, comprising products from lines such as Laser, Laser Blade, Palco, Trick, Underscore, Linealuce and Light Up have been installed in this space to demonstrate the infinite installation possibilities of iGuzzini luminaires, which include Graphic Light, Invisible Light, Human Light, Vertical Light, Guiding Light and Shape Light.

Komeyui

Aiming to bring people together and introduce patrons to some of the truly exquisite food Motomu enjoys in Japan, the restaurant’s offering is supreme quality food and an amazing dining atmosphere.

Designed by Baenziger Coles, Komeyui required an elegant and thoughtful lighting solution that would provide flexibility between night and day settings, along with the potential changing table arrangement hospitality spaces often need.

There was a specific requirement to highlight the sushi bar area, with it being the main stage of the space for chef and client interaction.

To craft a comfortable and unique dining experience Baenziger Coles selected predominantly One AU products, including our locally designed and manufactured Project linear profile. The selection of Bentley for performance and aesthetic reasons also provides consistency across the family of products for wall, surface, pendant and recessed light sources.

Moonee Ponds Residence

Conceived by Architecton, every element of this impeccable property is highly considered. Architecton designed a home defined by black steel and concrete that is softened by the subtle lighting design. The result is a slightly theatrical aesthetic where high and low light levels add texture to the spaces.

To achieve this contrast, we integrated luminaires into the joinery and architecture to highlight features rather than the entire space. General ambient light was mostly a by-product of this accent lighting.

iGuzzini’s Laser Blade XS downlights were subtly recessed into the plaster ceiling and provided pools of light in the hallways. One AU’s Abbey 18 linear LED with high quality LED was hidden in glass-fronted cabinets, highlighting a curated glassware collection and allowing light to spill out into the room.

Where linear lighting was required in wet areas, One AU’s flexible weatherproof Loop product was used. The exterior lighting was also highly considered. iGuzzini Light Up Orbit uplights, with various beam spread options, ensured all architectural elements were showcased. A six-metre concrete feature wall was illuminated by iGuzzini’s impressive Linealuce recessed wall washer to ensure this architectural masterpiece was lit to perfection.
